Hi! Welcome to my blog!

I am an Edmonton Photographer. I mostly like to take portraits, but love photographing everything. I received my first DSLR (canon T4i) on Christmas Day, 2012 (thanks dad!). I loved it dearly. I quickly became obsessed with it. Then came my second love, a Nikon D5200, which I call Hernando. I love learning about photography and photoshop. Armed with my D800, Hector, I will continue to post my new pictures and, as often as I can, how I achieved them, because learning is all the fun. I will also do my best not to be boring! Enjoy!

Participatory Meetings

So you’ve received a request to attend a meeting to provide information to help inform a decision on a company project. You don’t know much about the project itself and you won’t be expected to make any decisions, but you do know everything there is to know about social media marketing. You accept the meeting, you show up with a notebook and some objective insights on how to run a social media…

Stepping Stones →

About a month ago, I was asked by a friend to photograph a newborn photography session for the Stepping Stones Foundation. We work hard to provide pregnant and parenting youth with the resources they need to be successful as parents. The generosity of our contributors enables us to provide personal support and resources that help […]

Business Meetings: An Introduction

Business Meetings: An Introduction

This post will be just the first in a series I will be doing on running an effective meeting. Regardless of the work you do, what sort of business you’re running, or the size of your organization, you’re going to have a meeting with someone. Huge organizations, like Google, have meetings. Tiny organizations, like ACS Studios, have meetings. Goals for both organizations may differ, but there are…

Choosing a platform: Weebly, Wix, Wordpress, oh my!

Choosing a platform: Weebly, Wix, WordPress, oh my!

I know websites seem scary and awful and difficult, but once you know what you are looking for, websites are easy peasy! I love building websites. I started out by learning to code websites from scratch. As time went on, new platforms started to come out. While I was perfectly capable of coding, these new platforms made it easier and faster than ever before. The platform is the place where you…

When is it time to register and license?

When is it time to register and license?

In this post, we will answer the question, “Do I need to register/License?” This question was posed by one of our dear readers, and it is one that I know I asked when I started my photography business. Let’s jump right in!

1. Do I have to register municipally or provincially if I do everything in my own name?

Good question! These are actually two different topics. One is absolutely necessary, the…

About Aaron

What is your background?

I am a jack-of-all-trades and a master of few; well that is what I like to tell myself. I have a background in psychology with a dash of philosophy just to keep me grounded. I am even published poet (Well, when I was in elementary, “Island of dreams”. Look it up), aside from that I like to occasionally write. I have spent majority of my time in the service sector…

I cannot get over how cute this picture is! In this image, Carson had just realized that we were going to let him destroy the cake. His face says it all!How I took it:
I had two lights pointing at the background to eliminate shadows, I used a huge soft box in front of Carson. It was set really low (can’t remember how low) for a catch light.I did have a speed light on my camera, mostly because Carson liked to look at it, so I could get his attention easily.
This picture actually has quite a lot of processing to it. While I didn’t do much to Carson (he had a boo boo), the background I chose was wrinkled. So, in photoshop I had to paint over it to get it to smooth out. I used the brush tool and clicked alt+click to choose a colour, then with 30% flow, painted over the backdrop. I used the skin clarifying brush in lightroom after ward to get the edges around Carson. To get the image ready for social media I used the Colorvale plug-in to sharpen and save as a .png, which seems to get rid of that crunchy Facebook look. And, that is how I made this picture. Feel free to take a looky at the exif. I used a big depth of field because… toddler, and a fast shutter speed because… toddler. :D
